Location: Acton, London — Excellent transport links, Acton Town station only 5 minutes’ walk, ample car parking onsite.

 

Role: VICE PRINCIPAL- CULTURE AND ETHOS

Start Date: – April 2023 to March 2024.

Salary: L17 – L21 (Ark, Inner London)

Contract: 12 months maternity cover with potential to become a permanent role.

 

Ark Acton Academy is on an exciting improvement journey and we are looking for an Vice Principal to join us and help us continue to be the school our students deserve. We are a fully comprehensive school that is proud of its diversity and our rapidly improving outcomes. 

We secure very strong progress and great destinations for our students and the 6th form is the jewel in the crown of the academy. We run two main post-16 pathways and as a result of careful guidance and excellent teaching, many of our students take up places at high tariff universities including Oxbridge, Medical school and Russell group universities, with others securing places on competitive apprenticeships. We have a tradition of securing places for our students at US Ivy League universities, mainly on full scholarships.

We are now looking for someone to come and continue our excellent work on culture and ethos, ensuring we maintain a calm and scholarly atmosphere that enables all students to thrive. We serve a disadvantaged community, with half of our students being on Free School Meals and we are proud of our commitment to serving local children.

Our curriculum

Our purpose as a school is to ensure our young people can go out into the world and live a life of choice and opportunity. We want them to leave Ark Acton having been inducted into systems of worthwhile knowledge that enable them to participate in and shape the national discourse.

In order to achieve this vision for our young people, we place the curriculum at the heart of school life. It drives all other decisions that we make and is the best means we have of demonstrating as a school what we believe in and what we stand for. In essence our curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils at Acton acquire disciplinary knowledge that they cannot learn at home and that this specified curriculum knowledge is based on the most coherent and tested ways of conceptualising the world that we have.

Alongside our taught academic curriculum we run our co-curricular programme. This programme provides experiences and opportunities for all students to participate in individual and group activities that help them develop essential life skills. Debating and oracy sits at the heart of this model as we aim to enable all our students to develop confidence, articulacy and team-working skills.
