Renaissance College Hong Kong is now accepting applications for Vice Principal - Secondary (Student Wellbeing). The position will be a full-time two-year contract with negotiable start date and renewable by mutual consent. 

Renaissance College Hong Kong (RCHK), an English Schools Foundation Private Independent School for students in Year 1 through Year 13, is seeking a creative and passionate Vice Principal whose major duties would include supporting student development through a coordinated and comprehensive student wellbeing approach. The Vice Principal-Secondary is directly responsible to the Head of Secondary and will be a member of the Secondary Senior Leadership Team. They will be a lead person in respect to the implementation of initiatives and policy relating to the Secondary School and positively supporting College change as identified in the College Development Plan.

RCHK is a dynamic “through train” IB World School in its fifteenth year of operation serving over 1100 students in the secondary school and nearly 2100 students college wide. RCHK has an experienced MYP and DP faculty who are child centered and innovative in their approaches to teaching and learning. The parents and community members provide phenomenal support to the school and are active participants in the evolving development of the college.

Roles and Responsibilties 

  • Meet regularly with the Head of Secondary
  • Assist the Head of Secondary with the instructional programme and day-to-day school operations
  • Oversee the documentation and implementation of student wellbeingservices including those developed through the advisory programme, LET and personal counselling offices initiatives
  • Work alongside the Primary Vice-Principal (Student Wellbeing) on RCHK’s College Wide Wellbeing programmes (eg The Science of Wellbeing Curriculum, Relationship & Sexuality Curriculum, Heart of RCHK, Parent University Wellbeing Series)
  • To act as the Child Protection Officer in Secondary alongside the Principal and the Head of Secondary. To lead, alongside the primary child protection officer staff training on child safeguarding systems and procedures
  • Implement, monitor and regularly review students’ wellbeing (eg attendance, behaviour, uniform and safety)
  • Work alongside Heads of Year to meet with students and parents as needed on wellbeing issues as they arise
  • Develop and monitor a student referrals system ensuring that teachers and staff are updated on the status of these referrals and ensuring that teachers are adhering to established referral policies and procedures
  • Work with the Heads of Year and Heads of Department to ensure class lists for the start of each academic year for advisors
  • Work alongside the Student Council to ensure students are part of the decision making process at RCHK
  • Facilitate PRD for Secondary Leaders as required by the Head of Secondary, completing all supporting documentation
  • Line management of Heads of Year, House Directors, counsellors and school social workers
  • Management of the Y6 to 7 transition, working alongside primary leadership and the Year 6 team
  • Work with the Head of Year 11 and Work Experience coordinator to ensure students find and attend Work Experience that is suitable
  • Interview as per the admissions policy students for Years 9 and 10
  • Assist with the organization and monitoring of substitute teachers in the classroom as needed
  • Working with the PA to the VPs to arrange and distribute daily cover as needed 
  • To facilitate the staff PRD process with other members of the SLT
  • To manage communication about the evacuation procedures, including staff training and ensure that evacuation is practised every year
  • Maintain an overview of the YES scholarship students
  • Classroom and teacher observations and feedback
  • Other related duties as assigned by Head of Secondary

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification
  • Evidence of higher study
  • Relevant experience
  • IB MYP and DP experience
