We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable visiting music teacher to teach singing and piano across the age and ability range. The Cedars School is an independent boy's school located in Upper Norwood. Having recently relocated to the site from South Croydon, the school continues to grow every year. We are looking for a visiting music teacher to teach both singing and piano across the age and ability range. The Music Department consists of one main teaching room with two breakout spaces and a suite of three practice rooms with music storage and the music department office. There are ten visiting music teachers at present offering a full range of instruments, and this is increasing each year as the school grows.

The main purpose of the role is to teach singing and piano to all abilities of children across all year groups, meeting their individual needs. It is also expected that you will prepare students for external music examinations and for school-based performances.

Applicants must have a suitable degree or qualification of music to teach singing and piano; the ability to enthuse and effectively communicate the subject to students; and be an effective practitioner with both personal impact and presence. The role is on a self-employed basis and is to currently undertake 2 hours of teaching per week. This is likely to increase. We are able to be flexible of the days and there is potential for these hours to be increased based on the success of the appointment. This position is to start immediately after the Christmas holidays.

Applications will be considered upon receipt. If you have any queries about this role, please contact Catherine Usher, Director of Music: cusher@thecedarsschool.org.uk

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
