A gap-fill exercise for use with any audio file of the song. English words provided but the students must find the correct French spelling (gender/number etc) so a little more thinking than your usual cloze exercise.

Grammar reference PDFs, suitable for KS3 - KS4 and as extra support for KS5 students struggling still to get their heads around the basic tenses. Really come into their own when using with mini whiteboards for low-stakes testing of where pupils have grammar gaps. Feel free to share/print/upload to school website remote learning hub etc. Or make mini grammar guides. Or print as A3 / A2 posters.

An IWB lesson, with support sheet for the final slide for those who may need it, to highlight adjective agreement for the first time with Y7. Use with mini whiteboards for instant 'who understands it?&' check before writing the 10 phrases on the last slide.

For anyone having to juggle settling a class whilst logging on to a computer then finding their lesson ppt and wiping the board clean and anti-baccing the keyboard and desk… basically dealing with everything else that we have thrown at us in the first 5 mins of a lesson… Maybe try using one of these starter tasks. Already populated with ideas but you can adapt to suit your needs. Hope you find it helpful to ease the chaos a little :-)

A complete lesson I used with my Y10 recently (and top set Y9) to reinforce good dictionary skills. Lots of interactive options - my pupils used mini-whiteboards and looked up dictionary entries only once they had colour-coded a photocopied sheet of dictionary pages with adj, nouns, verbs etc. Could be used with individuals, pairs and groups. Any feedback gratefully received.

An IWB activity set designed for my top-set Y9 to clarify word order when using the negative in past, present and future tenses. They chose a minimum of 3 phrases to use/manipulate when writing about holidays.

Suitable for form time (designed with my vertical Y7 to Y11 form in mind) - print onto card, chop, distribute cards between pupils, they keep them face up on the desk until they've read it out, then they turn it face down. Anyone with cards still facing up at the end signifies an error somewhere in The Loop! Time them and see if they can beat their own time, or against other forms. Excellent memory aid too...

An experimental lesson for Y7 where I used a variety of questionning techniques to help them better understand our marking criteria, with the opportunity to classify words and begin building sentences (whole class, on IWB, in exercise books or using mini-whiteboards).

Superhero Reward Chart and PowerPoint Update slides to accompany it. Useful for positive reinforcement in the classroom. Suggested way to use these resources: print the chart out, explain to the pupils how it’s going to work and that they are the only class you’re using it with so they feel special. Allocate each row (from front to back of classroom) a superhero. It’s a team effort to collect points - this should mean that there’s lots of peer encouragement to remain on task, follow instructions, listen up etc etc. The chart goes on the wall next to the whiteboard. Every time you see behaviour/engagement which warrants a point, just put a dot with your board pen on the square for that week/hero. LOTS of verbal commentary needed at the start, “excellent participation from this row, you get a point on the chart” etc. Explain really clearly why each point is awarded (and sometimes, why a point is NOT being given too). Then, at the start of each lesson, show them the Superhero Reward update slide from the ppt, (updated prior to the lesson) so they have a focus. Prize at the end of the (half)term for the winning superhero row - chocolate, house points, golden time…whatever you feel is the best ‘hook’!
