A fully differentiated lesson on the importance of Christmas for KS4 mixed ability students. Lesson includes: Entry task considering the impact of parts of the novella if set during summer with student prompts and a challenge. LO with key words, clip and definition (foreshadowing task), notes on why Dickens chose Christmas. The mini-plenary is a pre-reading quiz to prepare students for the extract. Reading of an extract (Fezziwig) with highlighter challenge and think-pair-share question. Plenary is a 100 words challenge. All students must sum up why Dickens chose to set the novel during Christmas time using the mild, medium or hot prompt depending on their level of ability.
Extract and a PPT slide on nihilism in the text to challenge top set students are also included.
