This is a series of 4 lessons and a mock paper using an extract from The Cuckoo’s Calling by JK Rowling/Robert Galbraith to work through questions 1-4 of the English language paper 1 exam. The lessons make use of reading strategies as suggested in Doug Lemov’s ‘Reading Reconsidered’ to develop competence in reading - in particular, the use of TDQS. These text dependent questions encourage deeper engagement with the text. The lesson also features exam questions and teacher models. I have used these lessons with my Y11 class to prepare them for their exams. It would be suitable for a sequence of lessons or for a revision booster.
