80 page CCSS English Literature Comprehension Booklet on the King Arthur Legends with answers.

The questions primarily relate to Volume 1 of ‘Le Morte D’Arthur’ by Thomas Malory (available for free via Project Gutenberg), but also require students to carry out research and refer to other related texts such as Geoffrey’s ‘Historia’, and poetry by poets including Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Walter Scott and Chretien de Troyes. Arthurian inspired fine art is also explored.

Comprehension questions have been prepared in accordance with the following Curriculum Standards:

RI.4.8: Explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in a text.

SL.4.2: Paraphrase portions of a text read aloud, or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.

RL.4.4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including those that allude to significant characters found in mythology (e.g., Herculean).

RL.9-10.6
Analyse a particular point of view or cultural experience reflected in a work of literature from outside the United States, drawing on a wide reading of world literature.

RL.9-10.9
Analyse how an author draws on and transforms source material in a specific work (e.g., how Shakespeare treats a theme or topic from Ovid or the Bible or how a later author draws on a play by Shakespeare).

W.4.7: Conduct short research projects that build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.

W.9-10.3
Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.
