A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare) - Act 5 - WORKSHEETS + ACTIVITIES + ANSWERS

This print-and-use unit of work includes worksheets & activities that are part of my teaching unit for William Shakespeare’s iconic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Specifically, the worksheets focus on Act 5 of the play, which features all the main characters, the play-within-the play and Puck’s final prologue etc.

The unit of work includes:

  1. Comprehension Questions for Act 5 of the play.

  2. Shakespeare in Context: Short information text the tradition of performing at the royal court of Queen Elizabeth I and what that entailed for Shakespeare and his actors. This is very relevant because it is paralleled in Act 5 of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

  3. Analysing Language: Extensive guiding questions to analyse the various ways in which Shakespeare uses language and other key elements of drama to great effect in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This activity facilitates a close reading of the scenes and provides a good opportunity for extensive writing practice (critical commentary).

  4. Act it Out! - Dramatic Activity designed to bring the scene to life and to enable you to do some drama with the students (Act 5 is particularly suited to being performed because it brings all the characters together and is extremely funny on stage).

  5. Comprehensive TEACHER’S GUIDE section with an ANSWER KEY and detailed MODEL ANSWERS for the comprehension questions, a commentary of key lines for Act 5, as well as a detailed critical commentary of the last Act of the play… This is designed to help teachers (especially those new to the play), but will also be useful to the more experienced Shakespeare enthusiasts.

Enjoy, and please leave feedback!
