It is intended that this Health Bite is taught over three 30-minute sessions, spanning over six weeks. A PowerPoint is provided to guide teaching and learning. Lesson delivery and teaching tips are provided within the notes section of the PowerPoint. Pupils not only gain knowledge about safe and unsafe sun exposure but are also challenged to put their understanding into practice by choosing and presenting responses to real-life scenarios. Pupils are encouraged to consolidate their knowledge and choices between each session, with the opportunity to share their understanding at home.
Prior to the beginning the programme, pupils would benefit from an understanding of how to create and use mind maps. These are used consistently throughout the Active Chief health education programme to record, track and recall key information. An introduction to mind maps that can be used by teachers and pupils alike is available from Active Chief.
About Active Chief…
Active Chief is a health education programme that equips pupils with the knowledge and practice required to stay safe and keep healthy.
With the Active Chief programme, home and school adopt a cohesive approach towards supporting pupils to not only gain knowledge relating to physical, mental and social wellbeing, but to also put what they know into real-life practice. Pupils are appropriately challenged to make health-related choices that gain immediate benefits and promote healthy living as a life-long habit.
This Health Bite from Active Chief sits within a wider health education programme for Years 1-6.
