A fully resourced and differentiated lesson on the presentation of ambition in the play. Lesson uses contextual details about the Garden of Eden (cloze with answers included) and the Gunpowder plot to get students thinking about how ambition was seen as negative during the Renaissance. Students will discuss key questions, make notes and attempt a quote analysis considering the theme of ambition and the writer’s overall message. The main activity is differentiated by having mild, medium and hot elements to it. The lesson also includes a model answer and self-assessment checklist for students to give their responses focused strengths and targets. The lesson was designed with a year 10 mixed ability group in mind for the AQA English Literature GCSE unit of study.
