**Color Field Painting - a modern art movement, developed in the United States, c. 1950 - shortly described and explained in text quotes ** - free resource for students, pupils and teachers in American art history

.
Color Field Painting was a modern, mainly American art movement - here briefly described in selected text-quotes.
I selected this group of text-quotes from writings of the famous American art-critic Karen Wilkins. She pictures and explains the development, facts, goals, and meaning of American Color Field and its artists very well - including their very characteristic painting techniques.

Color Field Painting developed c. 1950 from and after an explosive and very emotional Abstract Expressionism in American modern art. Color Field was reacting on this earlier Abstract-expressionism and rejected firmly the emotional, individualistic and heroic approach of the first.
.
Moreover you can find on TES Resources the quotes of the individual artists, involved in American Color Field, under their own names. I placed on TES the selected artist-quotes of Adolph Gottlieb, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Noland, Hans Hofmann, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Frank Stella and others - see their names on the attached Link-list.
