Comprehension Fluency Packet using Reading A-Z passages- Level G/DRA 12

This comprehension packet is for Reading A-Z's Fluency passages LEVEL G/DRA !
I created this resource to mimic the Read Naturally Fluency and Comprehension materials. Great tool for struggling readers. Students listen to fluent reading, read and re-read text for fluency, and text render for comprehension.

Comprehension packet for use with the following Level G fluency passages:

1. Ants
2. I Went For A Walk
3. The Pink Lady
4. Snakes
5. Spider and Fly
6. Starfish


After you have downloaded and printed the fluency passages on Reading A-Z, slide them in the right order in this comprehension packet and make copies.

My fluency practice steps:
1.Introduce the title and key words/new vocabulary.
2.Students write prediction in reading journals.
3.Teacher does a one minute cold timing (first read) with each student in small group. Teacher puts a bracket around last word read.
4.Student may graph words read in blue for cold timing.
5.Students listen and follow along as teacher reads passage fluently (3) times. I often have students echo read on the third read.
6.Students read passage to self 2-3 times and practice accuracy and expression for fluency.
7.Teacher does a one minute hot timing with each student and puts a bracket around last word read.
8.Student may graph words read in red for hot timing. Celebrate their progress! :)
9.While I am taking cold and hot timings students may read fluency practice cards on ring.

- You might also find that students can begin working on comprehension questions during hot timings.
10. Students must text render by highlighting the answers to the comprehension questions first. Only after they reread and highlight can they circle their answers.
(The first four questions are right there, “thin” questions. The last comprehension question is a “thick” use your understanding of the text question.)
