Creative writing exercise to include a report of a past event connected to an object in a museum

  1. Ask students to think of an interesting object which might be displayed in a museum.
  2. Write a short story where the narrator is in first person singular.
  3. The narrator stops to look at the exhibit.
  4. An attendant at the museum moves towards the narrator and points out something interesting and unusual about the exhibit.
  5. Then the attendant produces a written document (which might be quite old) which tells the story of how the unusual feature came about.
  6. The narrator leaves the museum.
  7. There is a sense of unfinished mystery about it.
Read to them the story below to inspire their imaginations then ask them to have a go at writing their own story.
