Short and snappy presentation for a tutor time (20 mins) or possibly as a starter activity in an MFL or non-MFL lesson. This is an excellent way to promote and raise the profile of modern foreign languages in your school.
The presentation features:

- A ‘hook’ activity to get students to work out which languages are being use on the first slide. Goes beyond the typical classroom-taught languages such as Spanish, French, German etc. and includes Macedonian, Russian, Norwegian and others.
- Has a short (5 question) quiz about the countries of Europe, the EU and micro nations.
- Explores the concept of European micro nations and disputed territories such as Abkhazia and Transnistria.
- Encourages class/group discussion and ‘student thought’ when thinking about micro nations and what makes a nation.
- Finishes with a Christian prayer, perfect for CofE schools.
- Includes links to videos which explain the concept of micro nations in a child-friendly way.
- Includes a link to a website containing an interactive map where students have to name all of the (recognised) countries of Europe to complete the map.
- Slides include footnotes to answer any questions the students may have and to suggest ways of delivering the material.
