I created these flashcard questions in response to many of my own students’ desire to make their own flash cards for retrieval practice rather than use ready-made ones. They were finding it really difficult to know what questions to use for the flash cards, so some of the less motivated were either giving up or just writing out everything they know and colouring it in nicely!

There are between 10 and 40 questions per unit and I have divided up the units into the order that I teach them in for my own school. They can then easily be divided into Paper 1 cards and Paper 2 cards, depending on what you want to use them for.

I have created sets that are suitable for Combined Science (Chemistry) groups and others that are specifically for the GCSE Chemistry course (labelled Triple). I have included a set of cards on Working Scientifically.

The questions that are only on the Higher Tier papers are clearly labelled as such.

The questions are on one side of the ppt slide, which is A4 paper side. The students can print them out single sided, write/draw the answers, fold them in half, stick them together, cut them up and then have a ready-made set of cards to use. They can also be printed out double sided and then just folded in half to use in a different way – they are fully customisable.

There aren’t any answers for the questions – the whole point of making them was so that students can make their own (there are LOADS of ready-made ones available already).

However, each of the questions can be answered by looking at the relevant mind map summary – I have created one for each unit, which is also available as a TES recommended resource.
