I have attached a pdf presentation in case there are compatibility problems with the powerpoint. A plan is provided. There is a link to a fun video that explains the main teaching points. Teach children that the top number is how many parts are shaded and the bottom part of the fraction is the total number of parts. The sheets are differentiated and provide a range of tasks. First they write the fraction, then they shade the fraction. Children also explain that a fraction is wrong as the parts ARE NOT EQUAL as well as trying to explain and spot equivalent fractions for the final question. One star is easier, two stars is harder, three is the hardest. A fun ‘Super Challenge’ is available for those who finish quickly/for the most able, children make their own fractions of shapes by trying to make a number, letter or word and writing the fraction they have made. There are 50 parts in the ‘Super Challenge’, so if they shaded 5 parts it would be 5/50. The plenary compares fractions of shapes to see who gets the most pizza.
