2 HOURS A fully-resourced PSHE / RSE lesson which serves as an introduction to the difference between sex and gender and explores sexuality, identity, language (correct terms) and gender expression. Students will explore new key terminology before investigating the key components of identity and sexual orientation, why some people still find some of the ideas behind this controversial (such as pronoun use) and then educate other students on a trait they will be working on and presenting in small groups (all information needed is included).
This lesson is great to consolidate the PSHE 2020/24 spiral curriculum (especially for an LGBT+ unit) or for a Citizenship diversity unit. The lesson has been written for KS4 / KS5 (but there is nothing unsuitable for KS3) and is editable, so easy to adapt for your own PSHE planning.

It invites students to make their own minds up about how useful neo-pronouns are and explains the correct use of pronouns for transgender people under the UK Equality Act, as a protected characteristic. It also talks about the use of pronouns and neo-pronouns between students, as well as how schools are advised by the government as of 2023 to handle changes in pronouns. 10) Gender stereotypes - what are these and why are they harmful?
