GERMAN REGULAR VERBS CHALLENGE CARDS #1

GERMAN GRAMMAR REGULAR VERBS PRESENT TENSE - GERMAN GRAMMAR PRACTICE: ONE HUNDRED DIFFERENTIATED TASK CARDS FOCUSING ON REGULAR VERBS IN THE PRESENT TENSE WITH RECORDING SHEET & ANSWER KEY

My German students find these challenge cards really useful for helping them get to grips with conjugating regular German verbs in the present tense. They’re great for independent learning too - students can work at their own pace, in pairs or in small groups, and really focus on conjugation patterns. I use the cards not only when we’re working on conjugating regular verbs in the present tense, but also across the school year - I have folders ready so that students can select the particular areas they feel they’d like to work a little more on. The questions are differentiated, ranging in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. I’ve selected 25 high-frequency regular German verbs with which beginner to intermediate learners of German will be familiar.

All files are non-editable in a zipped format and include the following:

  • Set of 100 question cards, 4 per 8.5 x 11 (A4) paper in landscape format

  • answer recording sheet - I don’t actually always use these - I let students use their work notebooks for answers simply use their notebooks for answers. I’ve included a sheet with a background, and one without. I’ve also included a blank sheet, with no numbers, which is useful when students are working ‘randomly’ through the cards at different times.

  • answer key - the key has four pages, and I find having a key essential for students, as it helps them to work and learn independently, and it also offers extra opportunity to engage with language - I tend to laminate sets of answer keys - one answer key for each small group is enough - There’s also one with no background if you prefer.

  • 4 question cards template for students to apply their knowledge practically, and to create questions for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity, and I encourage students to include other regular verbs they now.

  • alphabetical verb lists, German-English and English-German - reference sheet which students really useful as a learning support resource - it’s great as a year-round resource too, which they can put into their learning files/folders and add to as they meet new regular verbs.
