A 4 week unit of work for a year 11 General English course

  • 2 presentations (Introduction to Graphic Novels and How to Read Graphic Novels)
  • 4 activities (retrieval activity after reading a graphic novel of students choice, speech bubble and thought, word search and comprehension questions)
  • Highly scaffolded booklet to help students craft their own graphic novel
  • 2 versions of story board frames
  • 3 examples of student work

Fantastic unit of work, students highly enjoyed. Students are allowed to create their own graphic novel or they can use a story already considered in English class (for example Anh Do’s The Happiest Refugee). Students are to produce a draft in their booklet and then create an A3 good copy. Copies of the storyboards are included (blow these up to A3). Teacher will need pencils, colouring pencils, textas, black outliners and erasers/sharpeners.
