Here are approximately 24 lessons based on writing two historical narratives; one based on the story of Beowulf battling Grendel, and the second invites children to create their own creature for Beowulf to battle, and how to plan and write the story - the second one is heavily aimed on ‘in the moment teaching’ where the children choose the creature and create a storyline as a class, however there is a model character description included. The first set of lessons focus on feature finding and text marking examples of historical narratives, there is a modelled ‘WAGOLL’ write for children to use, as well as completed planning templates. There are lessons where the children edit and improve sections using ‘Prove it’ sheets. There are a selection of spag starters but most are spellings aimed at Y4. There are NO lesson plans as everything is on the flips including dates and the learning challenge, there is however a simple overview of the lesson sequence. Font used on the flip and worksheets is ‘Twinkl cursive looped’ Children will need to have read the story of Beowulf and Grendel and will need access to the story for vocab hunting lesson - we used Micheal Murpurgo’s version. Differentation comes in the form of Gold-SIlver-Bronze and is primarily aimed at Working Towards Year 4 Standards, it is limited but can be easily adapted to suit the needs of your learners. No of lessons can be increased or reduced depending on writing speed of children, it also includes a lesson dedicated to writing each story as a final complete story.
