Investigating the Ancient World

This a PowerPoint based series of lessons designed to introduce History for Stage 4 students studying the introductory topic: ‘Investigating the Ancient World’.

This was created to introduce students to the concepts of “What is history?” “Who studies history?” and “How is history recorded?”. It introduces students to time and chronology, research and primary and secondary sources, including opportunities to develop writing skills through small formative assessment tasks.

Included in these activities is a PBL-based historical investigation of Otzi designed to be delivered over a minimum three lessons and introducing historical essay writing techniques.

This resource does not yet discuss the Australian Indigenous history. Consider a research task discovering information about the Mungo Man and Mungo Woman using skills learnt in the historical investigation.
