A fully resourced lesson plan for children to apply their skills in calculating the area and perimeter in a real life situation.

Children are presented with a floor plan of carefully proportioned rooms. Within the pack, you will find three differentiated tables for different abilities of children to complete. Each table includes a short list of rooms which are relevant to that ability group. Children calculate the area of carpet and the perimeter of skirting board their rooms require.

Low ability - rectangular rooms
Average ability - rectilinear rooms
High ability - includes triangular areas and 'holes' in the shape

This lesson was originally designed for a Year 5/6 class.
