KS2 SATs Maths Booster Session Fractions: Multiplication and division part 1

This is everything you will need for a 1 hour Maths Booster Session on Fractions: Multiplication and Division
It contains:

1. Presentation (with guidance notes) which shows methods and provides examples for children to practice on wipe boards
2. Worksheet for practising x tables and doubling/halving (Publisher and PDF version)
3. Worksheet (12 questions presented in SATs format in Publisher and PDF format).
4. Answer sheet.

Contents of this session:

• Doubling and halving on wipe boards
• 6 x table rehearsal using counting stick
• Quick tips for tables you don’t know well and subsequent recording of 6x and 7x tables using method.
• Multiplying two common fractions, followed by examples to check understanding
• Multiplying one common fraction by a whole number, followed by examples to check understanding
• Dividing common fractions by a whole numbers, followed by examples to check understanding
• Mixed examples for children to work through
• Speed tables grid (2x,5x.6x,10x) Starting easy to build confidence!
• Doubling/halving

**The session is planned to last an hour. **Children will need wipe boards and pens and a pencil for working through the worksheet. The teacher will need a counting stick and access to a whiteboard.

n.b. In view of equivalent fractions being accepted in the arithmetic paper mark scheme (2016 & 2017)I have chosen not to simplify fractions, apart from where the answer is a whole number. This allows the children to get through more of the calculations in the given time.

This is the first in a series of planned sessions on Fractions. I will add subsequent sessions as I create them!
