A really positive and uplifting writing unit where children will learn how to structure and write about a golden moment in the life of a famous person, someone from history or their future selves.

Contains:

A resource pack containing all the copies of work and planning sheets required for the unit.
A 26 slide Powerpoint file which takes both teacher and pupils through the whole writing process step by step. Just follow the slides.
A planning breakdown with notes and tips of how to teach the unit. Planning notes are broken down into 4 separate sessions.

Very easy to follow and everything is ready to just print and use.

It is designed so that it can link to any topic you are studying. It can just slot in. It is completely cross-curricular.

It also stands as an excellent way to teach autobiographical writing in literacy.

Children begin by looking at Susan Boyle’s BGT audition from 2009 - her golden moment. They then analyse a modelled piece of writing based on this event and find a structure. Following this, they look at another piece of modelled writing based on Neil Armstrong’s golden moment when he stepped onto the moon. This follows the same structure as Susan’s writing.

Using the framework they have discovered, the children now have all the tools they need to structure their own piece of writing based on a person of their choice.

Through this unit, the children are taught how to use a variety of writing tools to engage their reader:

How to introduce the setting subtly and drop breadcrumbs to gradually unfold the story.
How to incorporate famous quotes into their work cleverly.
How writing in the present tense engage the reader.
How to use cohesion cleverly to engage the reader and give a sense of closure and satisfaction to their stories.

TRIED AND TESTED - IT WORKS!
