Fun upper KS2 Mental Maths write and wipe self-check cards (and Year 7 too) for starter activities / warm ups, early finishers challenges, revision tasks, SATs preparation etc. There are 36 football themed spiral trails, designed to be printed and laminated and completed with dry-wipe pens. Calculations include: all four operations, negative numbers, fractions of quantities / amounts, decimals and percentages (including percentage increase and decrease). PDF format.   • Each trail contains 10 calculations, which can mostly be calculated mentally.
  • Starting at the calculation to the right of the football, students write the answer to each calculation in the box, then use the answer in the next calculation, creating a running total as they follow the spiral
  • The spiral ends at the goal in the middle, where the answer to the final calculation is printed. Students can then see if they have completed the trail correctly. If not, they can check where they have gone wrong
  • Suits individuals, pairs or small groups
  • You could use it as a whole class starter, with students swapping after completion
  • You might want to print cards back to back with others to save on card and laminating
  • If required, print answer versions to use if students are struggling to spot where they’ve gone wrong. Alternatively, display on screen
