Great for end of year / end of term revision activities! 8 Mental Arithmetic Cross Number puzzles, originally designed for KS2 Y5 and Y6 (P6 and P7 and other equivalents) but they will suit some early KS3 classes for revision and consolidation. They could be used as part of SATs preparation.
A fun, flexible resource that could be used for early finisher tasks, mental starters, homework etc. They could be completed by individuals or in pairs or small groups, where they will promote important discussions about different mental strategies. As in a crossword puzzle, children will find it easier to work out some of the more challenging questions / calculations once they have filled in some of the easier ones as some digits will already be there for them. ANSWER GRIDS for all 8 puzzles are included within the file and could be printed for pupils to self-check (or displayed later on the board) and therefore cut down on your marking!
Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Times Tables, Doubling and Halving, Multiplying and Dividing by 10 and 100, Fractions, Percentages and Decimals.
Differentiation: I have called this set of puzzles Set A rather than used any other identifier to help facilitate the use of my Set B puzzles (originally designed for Lower KS2) with lower ability children within the same class without children being aware of the age level of the questions. Also for Upper Key Stage 2 I have Mental Maths Speed Tests and Mental Maths Self-Check Cards in my TES shop, available individually or with this Crossnumber pack in a good value bundle:

I hope these Mental Numeracy puzzles provide fun practice to help boost your pupils’ mental maths agility. If you can spare a moment I would be so grateful for a review on TES. Many thanks.
