Communicable diseases are those which are infectious, contagious and transmissible among people,
whereas a non-communicable disease is a medical condition or disease which is non-infectious and non-
transmissible among people. Communicable diseases arguably have a greater social impact as they can
devastate entire communities whereas NCDs are more of an economic burden on the healthcare system
which will increase as the global population ages, due to its demographic development and
epidemiological transition.
