About one-fifth of the electricity generated in the UK comes from nuclear power plants, like the one operated by EDF Energy near Hartlepool. These plants use nuclear fuel – such as uranium – to boil water which is used to drive steam turbines. The process does not produce carbon dioxide.

This worksheet checks students’ knowledge of nuclear fission and explores how nuclear power generation works, and some of the issues surrounding its use.

Suitable as a revision or homework worksheet at the end of a topic, this worksheet provides students physics questions in the context of a road-mending company.

Supports inclusion of careers in the curriculum for subject teachers.
