A sequence of ready to go lessons on Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet. Every scene in Act 1 is covered over a series of 10 lessons. There are both theme and character focused lessons, including the themes of conflict, marriage and power/authority as well as the characters of Price Escalus, Mercutio, Romeo and many more.

The lessons aim to examine the use of Shakespeare’s language and contextual elements of the play. The lessons make use of reading strategies as suggested in Doug Lemov’s ‘Reading Reconsidered’ to develop competence in reading - in particular, the use of TDQS. These text dependent questions encourage deeper engagement with the text.

Assessment opportunities and differentiation throughout. All ready to go but you may like to have copies of the play to read along from although this is not necessary as the key extracts are on the PPT. Made for AQA GCSE Literature Paper 1 but could be used with other year groups and exam boards.
