Spanish Clothing Store Price Comparison Activity

This communicative activity is designed for a pair of students. Each partner receives only one paper: either Tienda Alvarez or Tienda Barajas. For best results, paris should sit facing each other but use a clipboard to hide their paper from their partner. That way, they must speak to each other in Spanish to get the answers instead of just looking at each other’s papers.

At the top is a reminder of how to ask how much something costs, as well as how to answer. Partner A begins by asking what an item costs at Partner B’s store. Partner B will then ask Partner A about the same item in her own store. The student with the cheaper item circles it on the page, and the conversation continues until students have determined which store has better deals overall (i.e. the most cheap items).

This activity combines vocabulary for clothing, money, and numbers 1-100, so it’s quite challenging overall. The question-and-answer set-up encourages students to speak in Spanish for an extended period to find the missing information, making it a meaningful exercise in communication.
