Distance Learning: This has everything for the distance learning experience. It has many parts:

a) complete Symbolism presentation in powerpoint.

b) flash-discussion cards for review, enhancement or to spur class discussion (virtual or real);

c) student search to reinforce what was read; copy and paste results onto blank pages.

d) making artist card–tutorial and task (to share with class)

e) making enhanced visual based test question- tutorial and task (to share with class)

f) visually enhanced multiple choice test

All these parts are shown in the Preview (where it is a lot easier to understand since there are actual slides).

This is a complete presentation about Symbolism Art. We are used to hearing that Paul Gauguin was a Post Impressionist. It turns out that during that same time period he was considered a leading light in the Symbolism Art Movement. If someone had asked him which classification he fit into, he would have replied Symbolism. He and Odilon Redon became friends and defended one another from time to time against overly harsh critics. Redon even painted a terrific homage to Gauguin upon his death. There are many artists in this movement who intersect like this. Plus they have a lot of ideas on what they want to depict. There are some who go in the supernatural direction but that doesn’t mean horror genre. It means one artist paints the angel of death posed next to a grave digger while another artist paints an angel-like figure who is instead a Muse to a poet. Edvard Munch is another leading figure. So he was busy intersecting with two groups: the German Expressionists and the Symbolists. Both groups claimed they needed him and they did. But for different bodies of his work. Gustav Klimt mainly identified as a Symbolist. At times, he was classed as something more erotic and thus not a Symbolist. But no one would understand that today as his work looks very tame to us. Over 100 years later, Gustav is no longer scandalous. To learn more go to the Preview which has the actual slides!
