The Science Guesstimate Challenge 1

Presentation designed to as a starter or plenary activity in KS3/4 Science. There are 5 different challenges that cover different areas of a science curriculum. Each challenge has 5 questions that follow the same format in that a question is posed that would be extremely difficult to answer precisely and the students are challenged to use any prior knowledge and scientific reasoning to guesstimate the answer. “Points” are awarded relating to the proximity of the students answer to the correct figure, this allows an element of competition within the group. The correct answer is given and this can be a springboard for topic related discussion.
The whole presentation contains 63 slides and hyperlinks are embedded throughout. A set of “blank” questions are included so teachers can create a guestimate challenge about another topic.
