This Powerpoint is intended to teach KS3 classes about the Surrealist movement. It has been previously used with Year 9 grammar school students to introduce the movement with key ideas and techniques with a focus on dreams. This Powerpoint is intended to be used over one half term and to lead students onto creating their own Surrealist Dreamscape collage (please see my other resources for this). Please see my other resource ‘What is Surrealism?’ hand-out which can be used in conjunction with the Powerpoint first lessons.

The Powerpoint includes:
Introduction to Surrealism through analysis style class Q&A’s
Introduction to key techniques including Metamorphosis, Distortion and Juxtaposition and Exquisite Corpse
A drawing lesson which can extend over 2-3 lessons morphing two objects together.
Looking at key artists such as Salvador Dali, Dora Marr, Max Ernst
Link to literacy through tasks such as ‘storytelling dice’ starter (these dice can be bought from Tiger).
Extension tasks using Photoshop
Homework suggestion slides (these resources are available on my TES)
One theory lesson focusing on dreams, making links to Sigmund Freud and Psychoanalysis and looking further into Surrealism throughout a range of media including film - looking at Dali and Disney’s collaborative animation.
Extra slides at the end are included for further suggestions for in class activities that I have previously used.

Please see my ‘Surrealism - Dreamscapes’ resource for how this project is extended.
