LESSON 1-3: This lesson begins a 7 lesson unit on Industry and ‘Straight Outta Compton’, namely on Marketing and promotion. Having reviewed my previous resources uploaded and having now taught the A-level all the way through, I have gone back and updated all of my resources and have converted them to an AS/ A2 structure.

This lesson covers:

-Commercial Viability
-Production and distribution of the film
-Socio/cultural context and zeitgeist of the LA Riots/ Rodney King
-Idents
-The various ways a film can promote and market itself
-The success/ commercial viability of Biopics and case studies of other popular films within the sub-genre
-Existing fans of the NWA and in-built fan bases
-How the film was funded/ co-produced
-Breakdown of all of the different posters and a visual task/guide to varying trailers focusing largely on ‘SOC’ campaign
-Viral marketing and the success of ‘SOC’ and it’s ‘Out of Somewhere’ campaign

This resource includes all of the slides for written tasks needed within the Power Point as well as audio/visual stimuli and articles to bolster student knowledge.

NOTE: All task sheets, differentiated resources and audio/visual stimuli are included within the lesson.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at a AS/A2 Two- Year Course.
