This is a full unit of work created specifically for SATs focusing on reading comprehension skills.
There are 10 lessons including resources, worksheets, powerpoints and a lesson by lesson overview. Each 2 lessons covers a similar activity and all lessons are within the theme of ‘The Reading Detectives’ under 'Researchers / Volcanic Eruptions / Environment / Floods / Earthquakes.

The lessons are as follows:

Lesson 1 – Lava - Based on the Lava mini animation then RIC based questions and tasks.
Lesson 2 – Lava - Character Profiles and then summary activities.
Lesson 3 - Volcanic Eruption text - Explore the image and then analyse quotations in a layer format.
Lesson 4 - Volcanic Eruption text - Explore using RIC based questions.
Lesson 5 - Poem on Earthquakes - Pupils rotate around the room to explore poetry techniques and then quotations
Lesson 6 - Poem on Earthquakes - Annotation station then a worksheet with SATs style questions
Lesson 7- The Earth’s Layers - Text on the Earth’s surface. Pupils discuss and analyse the presentation of the text including colours: image: font: content and layout.
Lesson 8 - The Earth’s Layers - Pupils create their own mini SATs style paper using the worksheet including: True/false, Retrieve, Interpret, Summary and Choice style questions.
Lesson 9 - 4 Posters on Polar Bears - Group work lesson and discussion on the features presented within their posters. Rotate sheets and then engage in discussion using challenge, compliment and suggest mini cards.
Lesson 10 - Profile on the polar bear with extended ideas to develop discussion and interpretation skills. Then pupils analyse the text using the staged circle technique on the image.
