Reading Game, Yr 1 - Sort Out the Tea Table

Reading Game, Yr 1 - Sort Out the Tea Table

This tea table has some tasty dishes - and some inedible ones too! The challenge is to clear away the unsuitable ones, such as the old boot, clock and paper, by reading the words to identify them and crossing them out. This humorous activity takes the fear out of reading and will motivate able and hesitant readers alike to read or sound out all the 15 words. Designed for Year 1, but will also serve older children for reading practice. Can they create a tea table conundrum of their own? Early Years children will also enjoy picking out words and colouring in the picture.

Phonics check preparation resource / game black hole spot the sound

Phonics check preparation resource / game black hole spot the sound

Hi, This Interactive white board activity allows your children to spot the odd sounding word out and play ‘Into the black hole’…a game that sees the child dragging the pseudonym (alien word) into the black hole and into oblivion. The real words stay in front of the black hole and the alien disappear behind the center of the hole. The game is accompanied by a worksheet that can be used in conjunction with the IWB or without. The resource is editable so feel free to tinker to suit the sound and needs of your class. In most slides you can edit the words. I hope that this resource helps you and your children continue to love reading and enjoy their Phonics teaching.

Bee Phonics Fun Phonics Game

Bee Phonics Fun Phonics Game

Bee Phonics is a great tool to help students master reading. It contains eight variants of a phonics board. Four of the variants contain writing lines. First, students say each sound of a word very slowly and then they read the whole word quickly. Once they’ve done it, they get a nectar point. They need to collect at least 9 nectar points to win. I’ve created a couple of versions of the nectar points and the boards where students place their points. The file also includes phonics tiles with blends, digraphs, trigraphs and other letter combinations. This means that you can create lots of different words using them.
