Comparing the weather of St Lucia and the UK

This resource is designed for KS2 children. It is part of a wider unit called Exploring St Lucia which is designed to teach children about a contrasting non-European country. First the presentation introduces children to the tropical climate zone (dry and wet seasons) and its associated weather (i.e. high temperatures and high rainfall). It compares this with temperate climates such as that of the UK. Children are also encouraged to interpret data from a climate graph for St Lucia. Finally, other aspects of a tropical climate are covered including tropical storms and hurricanes. The accompanying differentiated true/false activity helps children to recap what they have learned about the climates of St Lucia and the UK. There is also an extension activity. Using compass directions to locate places in St Lucia

This resource is designed for KS2 children. It is part of a wider unit called Exploring St Lucia which is designed to teach children about a contrasting non-European country. First the presentation introduces children to the directions of the compass. It then helps children to locate places in St Lucia using compass directions - first using the four cardinal points (N, E, S, W), then also using the four ordinal points (NE, SE, SW, NW). The accompanying activity gives children a chance to locate places in St Lucia using both the cardinal and ordinal points of the compass. It is differentiated two ways. There is also an extension activity which challenges children to think about where places in St Lucia are located in relation to each other (e.g. Castries is north of Mount Gimie). The presentation introduces children to satellite photos. It then challenges them to use their detective skills to identify various human and physical geographical features in St Lucia. It is accompanied by a writing-based activity and extension. The main activity challenges children to identify the features in the satellite photos and explain their reasoning. It is differentiated three ways: - LA: Children identify 1 feature per satellite photo. - MA: Children identify 2 features per satellite photo. - UA: Children identify 3 features per satellite photo. This lesson examines the recent developments in Brazil following the world cup. The objective of the lesson is to decide whether or not the world cup benefited or caused the country problems problems . It uses a range of AFL techniques and creative tasks for the students to complete. I was seen teaching this lesson during an oftsed inspection and was given OUTSTANDING.
