L'environnement (Vocabulaire de base) - Jeu de correspondance

L'environnement (Vocabulaire de base) - Jeu de correspondance

This game is a classic game of matching cards. There are 40 word cards with their corresponding 40 picture cards. I use it to introduce the new vocabulary through inquiry, asking the students to match the words to the pictures, with the help of cognates, previous knowledge, group or pair work etc. I usually split the students into groups and give each group a set of cards, as competition motivates them. It is a good idea to print each set on different colored paper, to prevent the sets from mixing. If you do not have colored paper at hand, you could also mark the back of the cards with a different colored marker or highlighter BEFORE you laminate them. INSTRUCTIONS Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out. Give all the cards to the students and ask them to pair up pictures and words. More ways of using the cards: As a memory game - In small groups or pairs, students arrange the cards face down in rows and columns. They take turns in turning over 2 cards until they find a pair. They get to keep the pairs they find and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. In pairs, students take any 4 to 6 picture cards and they take turns in showing one card each to their partner and eliciting the word for it. Students who say the correct word, keep the card and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more cards, wins the game. When they finish with their cards, they can swap their cards with another pair’s cards. Similar to Spoon game - Deal all the cards to the students. The objective is to make as many pairs as possible without showing your cards to anyone. At the teacher’s signal, students put down one card to their left and then take the card on their right. When they make a pair, they put it down and continue until they get rid of all their cards.Whoever finishes the cards first, wins. The teacher deals all the word cards to the students and keeps the picture cards in a pile. Teacher shows the picture cards one by one and elicits the word. If the student who has that card knows the word and says it out loud, they take the card to make a pair. If they don’t, the teacher puts the picture card away. Students count their pairs at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. This can be done vice versa, too, with the teacher dealing the picture cards and keeping the word cards.

GCSE French 9-1 - speaking activity : trapdoor

GCSE French 9-1 - speaking activity : trapdoor

Trapdoors to revise topics of schools, future plans and global dimensions (higher and foundation for this). I have been using trapdoors a lot lately and apart from the original game of guessing the paragraph, you can push on with pronunciation, then remove words to create a gap fill exercise for listening skills and then some translations… Might be some typos but you can fix it! I hope it helps :)

French - Protect the environment display lesson

French - Protect the environment display lesson

This is a presentation for an alternative curriculum day. Any age group can do it, but you would need to adjust the end task to make it harder for older pupils. I used this with pupils from high-ability Year 7 up to Year 9. Pupils are introduced to the vocab needed for the display (switch off lights, put rubbish in the bin, etc).

This is a group of lessons under the same powerpoint for a Y9 top set with a lot of cultural references to Reunion Island's fauna + authentic material such as Science articles or definition of specific pollution (ex: la pollution atmospherique) I tweaked this powerpoint for my bottom set by giving them a vocabulary mat and culling down the vocab and size of activities. New GCSE Unit of work on World Issues

New GCSE Unit of work on World Issues

This unit of work focuses on World issues, solutions to World issues, the environment and a comparison between French and British schools. It is aimed at developing speaking and listening skills. Speaking tasks include role-plays and description of pictures, which can easily lead to free flowing conversations (part of the new GCSE). However, there is material to do reading and writing. Lesson 8 goes through a French song called "L'hymne de nos Campagnes" to add a cultural element to the unit, along with lesson 11 that deals with French schools and the French system. Resource 11 goes with lesson 8 and resource 12 is an improvement prompt you can use when peer-assessing speaking and teacher assessing as well, which will leave a trace of the work done in class in the books.

Les Energies Renouvelables (resource pack environment)

Les Energies Renouvelables (resource pack environment)

I couldn’t find anything fairly basic on environment and renewable energies for my y9 class (since it’s usually a gcse topic) so I put together this resource, which explains lots of energy sources and their advantages/ disadvantages in the powerpoint. It also has a sentence builder for expressing opinions and an information sheet (differentiated) for students to fill in as they go along. Worksheet activity at the end on what you are going to do to protect the environment in future. Pictures from google & info from various sites / information mats which has then been adpated for this group. Hope it is helpful.

La COP 21 Listening and reading comprehension on climate change

La COP 21 Listening and reading comprehension on climate change

I will try this with my year 11. Think they will like it. Visit the French website 1 jour 1 actu. play the clip ( in Informations animees ), it is the clip from Monday 30/11. the use the activities attached as you wish. The stater sheet will help students familiarise themselves with the script but you may wish to use it as a plenary rather than as a starter, this will depend on your groups ( A Level should cope with it as a starter ). Then complete all activities or even use the script with the first listening, then remove it gradually. offer the vocabulary search once students are more confident , it can be done with or without the script. I have put first letters of each words needed in French for guidance.
