How to describe places in Geography (vocabulary lesson)

How to describe places in Geography (vocabulary lesson)

This lesson is designed to introduce students to a lot of new key terms that are consistently used in Geography by getting them to describe their local area. It focuses on land use, physical and human features, opinions on various areas, transport features etc. Worked well with my year 7 class (levels 2 to 5). The lesson is focused on Newcastle, therefore you will have to change some small details to fit where you are located.

What is Geography lesson resources

What is Geography lesson resources

An introductory lesson that I use with year 7 to challenge misconceptions on what is and is not Geography. The first activity requires newspapers, any type will do. I used this with a wide range of abilities. The lesson promotes discussion and dialogue and it encourages students to think about what is and what is not Geography rather than just define it. The lesson is designed to fit in with my ideal of Geography i.e. critical thinking and thought provoking topics. My students enjoyed this lesson, most of them thought that Geography was just learning about maps!

Where are we in the world lesson

Where are we in the world lesson

A lesson designed to teach students on where the UK is in the world. Acts as an introductions to continents, countries, oceans, seas, lines of latitude and longitude, and major global features. This is a very independent lesson that I used with year 7s (levels 2 to 5). Quite a resource intensive lesson, definitely worth laminating the maps.
