French Trapdoor Speaking

A set of three trapdoor activities to help Year 7s practise producing oral language in French. The basics (name, age, personality, appearance) are covered in one and there are further activities on the topics of school, places in the town and free time. Students should work in pairs with one trying to guess the option from each box the other has chosen. If they guess correctly, they move on to the next box and if not, they must go back to the start.

Tour de France 2018

Tour de France 2018 an updated version of my previous presentation. Includes 2018 details about the tour, explanation of the stages, jerseys, fans, links to videos of the tour and the official TDF website, type of food the riders eat and fitness regime. There is also 20 questions with answers based on the information in the presentation, a set of key words, and a list of suggestions for follow up tasks. These resources can be for one lesson or, if you choose to exploit it further, could be a series of lessons. Great for teaching a cultural and geographic aspects of France and it’s an event you and your class can follow on television. I hope you enjoy teaching your classes about the Tour de France as much as I do.

Perfect Tense Daily Routine reading comprehension. 15 phrases describing Jordan Pickford’s day in the perfect tense from waking up on Saturday morning to winning against Sweden and winning man of the match. Pupils put sentences in the correct order (answers provided). Follow up writing activity is an empty comic strip worksheet for them to fill in either with same language or adapt for a different player. Also included is an ‘emotions’ wheel to encourage pupils to analyse how he was feeling throughout the day and produce corresponding sentences. This 61 page booklet (including answers) contains new GCSE style reading, writing, speaking and translation questions for Key Stage 3 students. The booklet contains activities on the topics of ‘technology in everyday life’ and ‘free-time activities’, from the AQA theme Identity and Culture. There are 6 subtopics: Technology in everyday life, sports, TV/film, music, eating out, and festivals. For each of these subtopics, there are 6 activities: a reading task, translation (short paragraph) from French into English, sentences to translate from English into French, a writing task (short passage similar to the foundation writing exam), a photo (like in the foundation writing exam) and a role-play. There are also 6 extension activities which bring together all of the subtopics: a longer reading task, a paragraph translation from English into French, a 90-word task, a 150-word task and a photo card (like in the speaking exam). A standby computer room lesson or cultural homework: webquest in which pupils research the answers to questions about sporting events in the French-speaking world. Five questions each on Roland Garros, the Monaco Grand Prix, 24h du Mans, le Marathon des Sables, le Tour de France, and a further five questions on other random French sporting stuff.
