KS3/text level French Reading arrow-whole lesson introduction to reading strategies

KS3/text level French Reading arrow-whole lesson introduction to reading strategies

This tried and tested approach to reading provides a visual strategy which can be applied to a wide variety of texts in a second language or in English, improving not only language skills, but also general literacy. Particularly useful when exploiting authentic materials, it can equally be applied to more traditional texts and, once embedded, enables students of all ages to work successfully with more complex source materials than would otherwise have been the case. This resource models the strategy with a simple French text, however it can be applied to texts of a wide range of difficulty. It includes a ten slide teaching presentation to introduce the strategy, comprehensive teaching notes accompanied by thumbnails of all the materials, plus student sheets and the strategy arrow, which can be laminated for repeated use. The resource is also available modelled with a German text and with a Spanish text.

Food Challenge Tasks

Food Challenge Tasks

A selection of 'Challenge Tasks' on the topic of food. These are based on authentic French resources (mainly infographs found on Pinterest) with comprehension questions added. I put these up on my 'Challenge Wall' in the classroom for the term and direct any students to them who finish their work early. To save photocopying costs I encourage students not to write on the sheets and to put them back on the wall when they're finished. I find that students get a huge sense of achievement from knowing that they are reading and understanding real French literature! As an extra incentive to try more difficult work I offer 'challenge stars' in return for tackling these tricky tasks. These are converted periodically into merits.
