Rivers, Locks and Canals

Rivers, Locks and Canals

I have put compiled 17 pieces of work about rivers, canals and locks. The first page is a few ideas on how to approach the subject. The comic strip is to emphasis the importance of safety -wear a life- jacket. Canoeing and kayaking have each been given a vocabulary. David Woodroffe, a recognised illustrator, did all the diagrams and pictures for me. The diagram of the canal lock is very clear. The vocabulary hopefully encourage the children to think how different it is to go on a long boat at 5/6 knots against the 70 mph on the motorways. Rivers can be very dangerous when they flood. Two vocabularies have been included - the first is general, the second was written to help my private pupil describe the fears he had living yards a way from a canal which nearly flooded. There are two sheets with large font showing words which rhyme, for the younger children, plus a Poetry Aid about rivers. The clip art picture for Kayaking and the Rivers can easily be enlarged to A4. To finish with there is a simple cross-word and word search, answers supplied. There should be something in this set of work which all the children can enjoy.
