Familie introduction

Familie introduction

Workbook to introduce the topic of family. Includes examples of how to introduce family members, say their name, age and describe their character. Includes explanation of possessive adjectives and conjugations of the verbs haben, sein and heissen. Includes practice for each of the verbs and using possessive adjectives. I usually use it in conjunction with a PowerPoint that shows the grammar and allows students to practice as a class. Would also be great for a lesson cover.

Family: German Vocabulary Card Sort

Family: German Vocabulary Card Sort

This is a card sort to help students learn words for family members (20 words in total). This would be a useful task with younger groups or low ability groups. There are three separate files, depending on how you want to present the task. - The 'teacher copy' shows a grid with all items already matched. - The 'student version' is a random layout, print this out and give to students. They can then cut out the items and match them, or stick them into their workbooks. - The 'quick cut' is designed so that you can produce 10 packs of cards quickly and easily using a guillotine. Each page has the same card 10 times over. This allows you to remove words that may not be suitable or needed. Alternatively you can print the same page twice double-sided to produce flash cards.

ABC Die Katze lief im Schnee - song & culture linked with vocabulary and language skills work

ABC Die Katze lief im Schnee - song & culture linked with vocabulary and language skills work

This German nursery song could be used when introducing pets/ colours/ dictionary skill/ grammar . Please ask students to fold the sheet (as stated on the sheet) so they do not see the translation. I used it with my Y8 class who love singing. The are overall a bright set of students and we practised recognising cognates, dictionary skills and also looked at genders and endings of nouns. When we later covered the weather they remembered Schnee when the expression Es schneit was introduced. They have also remembered the endings for the neuter. :)

Year 10 Personality

Year 10 Personality

This was a lesson written as part of the unit on "myself and my family" for Year 10. It focusses on personality and the use of relative clauses. It comes with handouts and a vocab match up sheet. This lesson has been awarded "outstanding" twice. The lesson is based around a multiple choice personality test of the type found in trashy teenage magazines to appeal to Y10! The listening is from Logo 4 red, but you can miss that part out if you don't have it. Please note, I have removed the names of some teachers from my school from the personality test. You will need to replace these with the names of teachers from your own school. Students find this hilarious and it makes it more "real" for them! You could probably string this out for 2 lessons too.

An introduction to the issue of urban living in Berlin, and the lack of green space. We meet two boys, Jan and Sven, whose families have allotments instead of gardens.
