This resource is about 3 hours worth of content. It includes an introduction to Unit 20: Biomedical Science on the NQF BTEC Level 3 Applied Science. I haven’t been able to find many lessons on the content needed for Learning aim B of the unit (histology and cytology) so I decided to upload mine. Content includes: introduction to unit structure and function of epithelial tissues recognising cancerous cells and tissues different types of screening (biopsy, aspirates) the process of microtomy ensuring quality standards The lesson contains mostly student-led activities, however the content is provided on slides if you do not have access to the Edexcel Salters Nuffield A Biology book, or the Biological Review article on ‘Preparing Microscope Slides’. I have added some ideas in the notes of certain slides.

BTEC NQF Applied Science Unit 3 Intro

(1)
An introductory lesson into the externally assessed unit 3 for the new BTEC NQF Applied Science. Lesson includes an activity on defining key terms, writing a hypothesis, risk assessments and identifying variables. I used this as an introduction into planning experiments and plan to reinforce the ideas of hypotheses, risk assessments etc. throughout the unit.

Unit 7 Contemporary Issues in Science Q1

(0)
A lesson aimed at BTEC Level 3 Applied Science students preparing for their Unit 7 exam. This lesson introduces the first of five long answer questions through a variety of activities: organising terms into the four implication categories (social, economic, environmental, ethical) finding implications in a real exam article, with scaffolding to help evidence this opportunity to see past student answers and discuss why they placed in particular grade bands Please note: You will need to download the Unit 7 June 2019 paper to access whole articles. I cannot reproduce them here fully for copyright reasons.
