Introduction to Sociology- Lesson and resources. This bundle contains a PowerPoint lesson and video clips. It is designed to be an introduction to students who have not studied Sociology before and could be used as an intro to GCSE Sociology, Year 9/10 taster courses or A level/VCE Sociology type classes. The lesson contains information on the way Sociology differs from Biology and Psychology, The Sociological Imagination, Norms and Values, Socialisation including the agents of socialisation.
Part of the Post 16 PSHCEE/Sixth Form scheme of work I developed to be taught by different tutors in the year group in a rotational timetable for each tutor group.

This lesson helps students understand the difference between ethnicity and race and explores the 7 different factors that create someone’s ethnicity. It contains activities, videos, weblinks and a student directed homework task where they explore their own ethnic background and create a reflective piece to share.

The third in a set of lessons for the key areas of Unit 3 in AS Health & Social Care. This lesson gives students an introduction to defining the importance of empowerment and advocacy policies within different service user groups. What creates a society? This lesson looks at the concepts of norms and values and takes students through a group activity of creating their own island society from scratch. They have to decide on a variety of features of the society and create a final presentation for the class.
This is not a lesson- this presentation is the key information/knowledge on this topic that could be used as Flipped learning/direct instruction before a lesson/inserted into a lesson presentation or to create a screencast video that students can return to for revision.
A lesson looking at the concept of active citizenship and fighting or social justice within our society. This lesson looks at a variety of examples from history including Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks within the US Civil rights movement. as well as more recent examples such as Colin Kaepernick and BLM. It also looks at Indigenous Australian examples of those who have stood up against racism such as Adam Goodes and Nicky Winmar. The lesson includes a group task where students look further into these case studies,
I used the key textbook from Andrew Heywood "Political ideologies- An introduction- 5th edition". to create summaries of key concepts and lesson activities. The "Who said what" is a template that has been started and could be completed by students.
This is a quiz initially designed for a mixed staff/ sixth form student quiz event but is easily usable for students from around year 9 upwards. I made a teacher baby photos round that teams filled in during the actual quiz too! This was made in 2015 so the first "current affairs" round would need to be added to!
Rounds included are:
Current affairs/recent news, Science & Technology, Movies, History, Geography, Music, Sport, Music- Audio/Intros round (suggested song clips for intros round), Literature, TV, "Our School" (have left the questions I used but deleted our answers for you to fill in your own!), Christmas, Christmas Number 1s, Christmas Food and Drink.
Each round has 10 questions, all questions either worth 1 point each or two answers for 1/2 mark each. Each round also has a bonus answer, team which get closest to the answer also win a prize, enabling more teams to win and stop one team dominating!
An extension/revision task to supplement/reinforce the learning of all the stages of adulthood and the different PIES developments that go on. The worksheet contain a set of statements about PIES developments throughout adulthood and suggested tasks you could do with them.
