About Pield Heath House School

About Pield Heath House School

At Pield Heath School we provide a secure, enjoyable and stimulating place to work and learn, where our students maximise their learning experiences and potential.

"Our school is a rewarding and inspiring place to work. We are very proud of our achievements and the children that we are privileged and advantaged to work alongside" is how one of our teachers describes working at  Pield Heath House School.

History and Ethos

Founded in 1901 we are a non-maintained school for young people aged 7-19. We offer day, residential and short break provision for those with moderate to severe learning difficulties, complex learning and behavioural needs, including autistic spectrum disorders and associated speech, language and communication difficulties. Our aim is to provide a broad range of learning experiences so that all our students reach their full potential, are able to live life to the full and become valued and valuable members of their communities.

We are a Catholic School but welcome students from all other faiths. Our ethos is founded on the principle of respect for all regardless of religion, gender, race or social background, we value the contributions of all individuals equally.

Location

Located in Uxbridge, Middlesex we are situated close to the M25 and M4 motorways with ample car parking on site. We are well served by excellent public transport links being  a short bus ride from Uxbridge tube station on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines.

Our School

Our school provides learning in small class sizes with a high level of individual support. Each of our students has a personalised education programme which addresses their specific needs to live a fulfilled life in a challenging and changing world. We offer a differentiated curriculum supported by an experienced Therapies team who work alongside educational and residential staff in supporting the development of each individual student.  Our students who board benefit from learning life skills in a 24 hour curriculum.

On site, in addition to our residential house we also have a well-equipped sensory room, soft play area and for those students who are unable to access learning in a classroom environment we have an Inclusion Hub which provides individual spaces for learning and developing the skills to allow the student to reintegrate, over time, back into the classroom. We have a horticulture team and students are able to learn and develop their skills within our extensive grounds. Students enjoy and develop by cycling on our Cycle Track and learn road and travel safety in our Travel Training Centre.

We are proud to be a Thrive accredited school and follow its principles to help support the emotional and social development of our students.  Pield Heath is a member of the British Institute for Learning Disabilities (BiLD) and embrace the principles of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to support our students. We support staff, therapists and parents to deliver a programme for each student to help improve their confidence, independence, behaviour and social interactions.

Our Team and Professional Development

Our staff are a supportive, dynamic and forward thinking team of professionals who are committed to working together to obtain the best possible outcomes for our young people. They participate in on-going CPD training and we regularly invite external organisations to lead additional training sessions. We are a Training School as part of the West London Teaching Schools  Alliance and offer mentoring opportunities and successfully training teachers alongside St Mary's University.

Pield Heath is a demanding, yet rewarding environment and we are committed to working together to obtain the best possible outcomes for all our young learners.

What people say about us

The school and the residential setting use the ‘positive behaviour support’ model. This model focuses on promoting and supporting children in safe and caring behaviours towards each other and the staff team..... As a result, children are helped to develop self-control through staff guidance and positive reinforcement.

- Ofsted Social Care Inspection Report, February 2019

Staff are highly skilled in adapting their communication style as they talk and interact with individual children. They seamlessly change their interactions based on the needs of each child. This means that the child’s ‘voice’ is heard, and their wishes are acted on. Staff understand what the subtle smiles or looks from a child can mean, and respond appropriately.

- Ofsted Social Care Inspection Report, February 2019

Children make outstanding progress in learning and practical independence skills. Children explore how to be independent of their families in a safe and nurturing environment. This helps to prepare them well for independence.
