About Ark Boulton Academy
Ark Boulton Academy is a six-form entry secondary school in Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The school joined the Ark network in September 2015, after its predecessor school was placed in special measures by Ofsted. It is now under a strong and effective leadership team and part of the network that turned nearby Ark St Alban’s Academy from failing to outstanding with some of the best results in the country.
Our aim is to grow together in understanding and cooperation, respecting each other’s needs, beliefs and background, working ever more closely to fulfil individual potential for the greater good. Together with families and the local community, Ark Boulton Academy is dedicated to helping our young people to develop a lifelong love of learning, a sense of personal and civic pride and the confidence to not just navigate the modern world, but to shape it.
By joining the Ark network, teachers now have access to something that has already changed their everyday roles: free, high-quality, tailored, professional development. New teachers who have joined since September have expressed their enthusiasm for joining a school on Ark Boulton’s journey, with the ethos of Ark and their school’s community. They have also praised the way the school is run, which gives teachers more opportunities to focus on teaching and working in a rewarding environment. Teachers have expressed the fact that ‘lessons are now for learning, not dealing with behaviour’. By having strong, clear, consistent procedures in place, there is less disruption and more time for learning. BBC Radio 4 even featured the school in an education programme, highlighting the school environment as ‘phenomenal’.
In order to enable effective teaching and learning to take place, good behaviour and safety in all aspects of school life is necessary. At Ark Boulton Academy we seek to create a caring and learning environment in the school by enforcing our strict behaviour and safeguarding policies.
We have a broad, academic curriculum, emphasising the importance of intellectual study and focusing on traditional learning. We believe that this is the best way to equip our students for university, and/or the professions and careers they eventually choose. In an ever-competitive global community we have provided an academic curriculum that gives our students the best possible chance to succeed whilst ensuring that they have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and express themselves through expressive arts. The three main elements in the curriculum to address pupils’ are academic, personal and social development.
During the Autumn Term 2016, the academy had it's fourth Ofsted monitoring visit. We are delighted to let you know that inspectors continue to be pleased with the progress that we are making and concluded that, “Leaders and managers are taking effective action towards the removal of special measures”, which is the best result that a school can achieve following a monitoring inspection.
