About Calder High School

Calder High School – The Calder Learning Trust

“Everybody, Everyday”

In the heart of Pennine Yorkshire, The Calder Learning Trust is based in the commuter village of Mytholmroyd, easily accessible from Leeds and Manchester. The Trust serves the Calder Valley, stretching from Halifax to Hebden Bridge and beyond to Todmorden and Littleborough.

Calder High School opened in January 1950, taking pride of place as Yorkshire's first comprehensive school. The school catered for three hundred and fifty students when it opened - a far cry from the thirteen hundred students and staff who work here today.  Now part of the Calder Learning Trust, we provide all-through education for children from 4 to 16 years of age.

To meet the requirements of a successful and growing school, we are expanding our provision with the re-development of our primary phase and the building of a new teaching block, both to be up and running by September 2019.

The Calder Learning Trust was judged as 'good' by Ofsted across all areas in March 2017 with inspectors recognising that 'good morale amoung members of staff means that there is a common aim to ensure that pupils do as well as they can'.  This has ensured that significant improvements in teaching, learning and assessment continue to impact on our improving examination results.

Across the Calder Learning Trust, we strive for everybody, everyday, everybody to do their best, so that they can realise their dreams and aspirations.  And through everybody, everyday, being and doing their best, we have secured the improvements that have led us to now being recognised as one of the top schools in Calderdale and in the top quartile nationally.

GCSE outcomes have improved every year for the last four years with progress figures significantly above national averages.

Alongside our excellent staff development programme, the Trust offers a cycle to work scheme and childcare vouchers. Many staff now take advantage of the through school and have enrolled their children in Calder Primary.

Subject to the position and negotiation with the Headteacher and Governing Body, part-time working is supported at all levels.
