About Cheadle Hulme High School & Sixth Form
Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS) is a hugely oversubscribed school with a reputation locally, and further afield, for outstanding teaching and learning through the relentless pursuit of excellence and a determination to ensure that every child succeeds. CHHS is a Teaching School and was judged Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in 2011 and 2015.
In the 2019 Progress 8 Headline measure CHHS came in the top 3% of schools nationally with a figure of +0.74. CHHS ranked as the top non-denominational, non-selective comprehensive school regionally in the annual Times Parent Power Survey 2019. CHHS is one of the top ten most sought after schools in Greater Manchester with more than 40% of all GCSEs awarded at Grade 7 or above while an impressive 67% scored grades 9-5 in English and Maths in 2019. Grade 5 or above is considered the government’s gold standard at GCSE level.
In 2020 70% of our Year 13 students progressed to study at one of the top 30 most selective universities.
CHHS became an 11-18 school in September 2013, with approximately 1600 students on roll. Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre opened in September 2014. We were designated a Teaching School in April 2012. We are the founder school of a newly formed Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) with an outstanding academic record.
Cheadle Hulme is a pleasant residential suburb on the south western edge of the Borough of Stockport and about eleven miles south of the centre of Manchester. The location enjoys the advantages of proximity to the open countryside of Cheshire and the Peak District and the cultural and sporting activities of a major city.
As a Training School for fifteen years and a Teaching School for a further seven, CHHS is very experienced in Initial Teacher Training and is aware of how capacity for ITT can be increased and enriched in order to produce the best teachers for future generations.
CHHS leads the Altius Alliance, which has been involved in School Direct since its inception in 2012 and was designated as a school-centred initial teaching training provider (SCITT) for the age range 11-16 from September 2015. In its first inspection in October 2017, the SCITT was graded outstanding by Ofsted. The Ofsted report lauded the training programme stating that the Altius Alliance SCITT provides a school-led route which ‘ensures that trainees have the opportunity to hone their practical teaching skills in an intellectually rigorous context. Training balances conceptual understanding with the practical toolkit trainees need to teach in schools’.
In addition to our work with Initial Teacher Training we also provide high quality support for a number of schools in the North West. The Teaching School has 49 Specialist Leaders of Education who support colleagues in other schools and deliver Continuing Professional Development and Pedagogy to our Associate Teachers.
Our aim is to ensure all our teachers are research literate and as such we offer an in-house Masters degree in education which is subsidised through the Trust.
If you want to work in a highly ambitious and successful school and believe you have the vision and commitment to join our team, then we would like to hear from you.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
