About City of Peterborough Academy
Sponsored by Greenwood AcademiesTrust, the new 11-19 City of Peterborough Academy opened in September 2013 in the Reeves Way premises that were occupied by the former Hereward Community College. It is co-located with the City of Peterborough Academy Special School which opened in September 2012.
A £13.8m building programme, including £5m donated by Peterborough City Council, has created new and refurbished accommodation on this site to provide exceptional resources for our pupils who will range in age from 11 to 19 years.
From opening in September 2013, with its first Year 7 intake of 180 pupils, the new City of Peterborough Academy will grow year on year to provide a total of 900 places 11-16 and 200 Post-16 by September 2019.
There will be a major emphasis on English literacy, mathematics, science, history, geography and modern foreign language development to ensure pupils achieve the English Baccalaureate Certificates recently announced by the Secretary of State for Education when they reach the end of year 11.
As a Trust, we are proud of the high standards of behaviour we set and achieve in our Academies. All pupils are encouraged to develop an enquiring mind, a sense of purpose and a determination to work hard.
The new City of Peterborough Academy will ensure pupils reach their full potential, with no limit to what they can achieve. We are committed to the highest of standards. We expect outstanding levels of achievement in all areas of academic and personal development and excellent behaviour. The Academy will raise aspirations and actively challenge low expectations.
The Principal, Mrs Alex Emmerson, leads the planning for this new school with her team of staff and GAT.
I am exceptionally proud to be the Principal of the new City of Peterborough Academy which is sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT). At the CoPA we have a clear vision for the future. We are determined that our youngsters are able to achieve well and leave us as confident, compassionate and articulate individuals with the skills to support them through the rest of their lives. Through high standards in teaching and pastoral care we expect to prepare our pupils well for entrance to higher education, high quality employment and the future careers of their choice. We will foster a caring, supportive and happy environment which will encourage our youngsters to flourish. In terms of behaviour, uniform and academy standards we are very traditional and have high expectations. We expect pupils to wear the full Academy uniform correctly, attend well, behave respectfully to others and to work hard. We also believe that education is more than just academic success and aim to develop the whole person with a broad, balanced curriculum, a wide range of extra-curricular activities which we encourage all pupils to take part in, as well a wide range of events during the year. From the academic year 2013 we will benefit from new and refurbished buildings that will give us new and exciting learning environments and enhance the quality of teaching and learning. Working together, and with the support from the GDFT, we will make the CoPA an outstanding organisation. If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to welcoming you to City of Peterborough Academy in due course.- Mr D Hardy BA
